If by any chance you are in London any time from November the 12 to April the 3rd, do not miss the free exhibition Evolving English: One Language, Many Voices at the British Library. The exhibition is made up of seven parts, all taking on a different aspect of the English language. It explores the English language in all its national and international diversity and evolution following social, cultural and historical influences. You will discover the roots of Old English, slang dictionaries, medieval manuscripts, advertisements and newspapers.
At the end of it you will be invited to record your own voice for linguists to study in the future. Your recording will be considered for inclusion in the British Library’s Archival Sound Recordings database. Recordings will be collected from all around the world so they can get a picture of English in the 21st Century.
